Sichem: Innovation Serving Responsible Chemistry

Headquartered in Hainaut, Sichem is a spin-out of Lithcote Europe, created in 2022 with a bold mission: to develop next-generation alternatives to PFAS-based industrial coatings. As environmental concerns grow and European regulations tighten, Sichem offers a concrete, forward-looking solution to a global challenge.

A Gentle Chemistry, Without Compromise

Since 2016, Sichem has taken a proactive approach to developing PFAS-free and solvent-free solutions designed to minimize environmental impact while maintaining — and often exceeding — the technical performance of conventional materials. The company’s approach relies on what it calls “gentle chemistry,” using water-based formulations and raw materials derived from mineral (clay, sand) or bio-based sources (such as polyamide 11 and castor oil).

Proven Performance

With technologies like Silkcoat and Endurocoat, Sichem combines anti-adhesion, chemical resistance, thermal stability, and mechanical durability. These coatings are engineered for a broad range of demanding applications — from industrial molds and food processing equipment to automotive components and energy-sector parts.

Test results, including abrasimeter measurements and real-world performance data, confirm that Sichem’s new-generation polymers offer superior glide, wear resistance, and environmental safety compared to traditional fluoropolymer-based systems.

A European Vision with Global Reach

While the U.S. regulatory approach focuses on banning harmful substances via exclusion lists, Europe imposes positive lists — allowing only authorized substances for food-contact materials. Sichem’s formulations are being aligned with this most stringent regulatory framework, opening the door to broader international acceptance, including in the U.S. and beyond.

The company’s flagship solution, Silkcoat, has recently progressed from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 to TRL 8, thanks to successful regulatory validations. Commercial launch is anticipated by the end of 2025, starting with food-grade applications.

Scalable and Cross-Sector Innovation

Far from being limited to a single niche, Sichem’s technology is modular and adaptable across industries. It speaks to both manufacturers seeking technical performance and companies pursuing a transition to safer, more sustainable, and ethically responsible materials.
